May 2006 Activity Summaries
Annual Spring Meeting 2006 on May 11th
The annual spring meeting focused on Health Disparities-A discussion Presented by Danny Ellis. Approximately 40 attendees at the meeting. There were several short presentations on projects that had occurred at the Community Health Coalition over the past year. The meeting was a great success.
Victorious Praise Health Fair Summary on May 13th, 10am
The health fair was part of a grant, Project UPLIFT, administered through the Coalition.
The health fair featured a variety of literature: heart disease, blood pressure, diabetes, cancer (breast, prostate, cervical, lung, colon), nutrition, freebies and a food demonstration. A panel discussion was held, which included a physician, nurse, personal trainer and other panelist. CHC Staff: Sharon Elliott-Bynum, Kendra R. Edwards, Dr. Cedric Bright, and Telese Coleman.
Project UPLIFT on May 18th
The NC Office of Minority Health held in the Exhibition Hall at the Royal Conference Center on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh to showcase the various projects of the Community Focused Eliminating Health Disparities Initiative. The Community Health Coalition participated and highlighted Project UPLIFT. The display included a gift basket that showed what was given to the grant participants, an algorithm of the grant goals and process, a DVD of the project workers, a PowerPoint presentation and a project notebook. Sharon Elliott-Bynum and Kendra R. Edwards were in attendance representing the Community Health Coalition.
Peace Missionary Baptist Church Health Fair on May 20th 9am to 12pm
The health fair consisted of our Health Fair Coordinator taking blood pressures and giving out literature to about 25 attendees. Marion G. Miles was CHC Staff representative.
Peace Missionary Baptist Church Renee’s Dream Presentation on May 20th
Renee's Dream Colorectal Cancer presentation is to educate individuals about the importance of colorectal screening and prevention. The project discusses the various test that are performed, nutrition, and exercise as ways to reduce or prevent cancer. 20 attendees of the health fair attended the presentation for Renee's Dream. Renee's Dream at Mt. Level Missionary Baptist Church
Renee's Dream Colorectal Cancer presentation is to educate individuals about the importance of colorectal screening and prevention.
